Thanks for coming, looking, reading -
Darkroom Daniel was born from an old 1950’s darkroom photo enlarger I found on FB marketplace and fixed up with cardboard and thrifted parts. What started as a hobby in film photography and darkroom printing turned into a hobby of looking closely, which then organically devolved into painting.
I worked night shift for most of my 20s, and draw a lot of inspiration from that lifestyle. I fell in love with the liminality of 24-hour laundromats. I spent many of my off-hours hiking in the dark. I still spend more time outside than in.
There’s a natural surrealism to being some-where you should be some-when you shouldn’t, and an abundance of nuance to the morality of our natural world - these are the themes I find myself coming back to lately.
